Supreme Court Fucking SUCKS
SCOTUS overturned Roe V Wade 2 days earlier.
THIS IS FUCKING RIDICULOUS.
The US is never on the top list of gender equality countries. But since they legalized LGBTQ marriage in 2012, I thought it might be a good place for the minority. Guess what, hell not.
I remember when I read the biography of RBG, she was not satisfied with the Roe V Wade verdict in the first place, because it was based on personal privacy which didn’t provide solid protection for women’s rights. What she worried about at that time has become reality, 2 years after she passed away. I feel extremely sad and angry for women in the US. This is a huge decline in their freedom.
Maddy told me she even considered living in Canada. This is not the mood she should have, America should be a good place for ambitious, caring, and kind young people to live. There is still some hope though, which will take a long time, just like our predecessors experienced 50 years ago. I read a post today that democrats say if republicans control the House, Senate, and White House in 2 years, they will pass a national abortion ban, which is too horrifying. But this is not a good time for democrats considering the inflation. And this is not a good time for the minority in the US, though the president is still a democrat.
Is running away a good option? For some shitty places like North Korea, yes, 100% sure, what do you expect there. But for the US, I don’t know. It is the no.1 country in the world. Should we just give it to conservative dogmatic people? We can protest, donate, and increase the accessibility of abortion pills, but none of them would show us a quick result. This is very frustrating, but we cannot give up. Incredible women fought for years and finally earned the right we take for granted today, but it is not supposed to be. Nothing should be taken for granted, like the time when women didn’t even have the right to vote.
Sometimes, I truly want to help. But what can I do? The character I like most in Family Guy is Brian Griffin, who is educated, arrogant, and has no principles when meeting pretty girls. Stewie’s comment on Brian goes like “Your best is middling, your worst is intolerable, and when you die, the most you’ll want to be written about you is ‘he was a good boy’ on your tombstone. And even that would be a complete lie.” I feel that’s me. Your best is middling, your worst is intolerable. So the best you can do is just to not mess things up. This also reminds me of a girl from Revolution of Our Times, who believes that sometimes it’s not about what you want to do, it’s what you can do based on your ability. Great women like RBG, who got Harvard’s offer twice when there were only 9 women in Harvard law school, can become leaders and they have the ability and courage to change things. But mediocre people like me, the best we can do is to look up to them.
If I could give the abortion right back to women in the US, I’m willing to die. Cause I’m a worthless nobody. But sadly no, nothing will change. Power will not even take a look at the dying people. The guy who jumped from an HK building wearing a yellow raincoat didn’t turn the irreversible trend back, the law passed anyway and police arrested over 10,000 people because of the protest; people standing in front of Russian tanks didn’t change the war in Ukraine, the war went on and inflation became more serious than ever while Russia made enough money to cover its expenditure on the war by selling oil; two girls who went to Xuzhou didn’t rescue the poor woman and they were put into prison. What you think is right does not always win, and in fact, they lose most times. Cause this world is never built on equality.
I hope I could see women in the US have the right to get an abortion in my lifetime. I may not be able to contribute to the goal a lot, but I would feel pure joy and happiness as America is indeed the beacon of the world. If women there can have their rights and are on the way to gender equality, women living in other places will have some hope. This patriarchal society fucked up a lot of women’s lives in the past, I hope women in the future could have a better environment to live in.
